Seriti means dignity in Setswana. This project for Mabeo furniture is inspired by traditional African wood chairs, made of only two parts – the back and the seat. The concept is a reinterpretation of traditional furniture in a contemporary way. Produced in Botswana, the frame is made of Panga Panga wood, an African hardwood of the Wenge family. The back is created with leather cord in a macramé pattern, using copper beads (derived from copper pipes) to hold the leather in place. The cushions are also prototypes woven out of Merino wool, by a native women’s weaving group.
