Sengu is the Japanese word describing the ancient tradition of cyclic reconstruction of the temples in Japan. A circular process of building and re-building just like the sofa designed for Cassina reconstructs a ritual of welcome, of comfort, of family.
The Sengu Sofa makes comfort its prime stylistic feature; its ergonomics are heightened thanks to the soft inclination of the back and armrests which feature an elegant quilted effect on the exterior, a detail also repeated on the back cushions.
The contemporaneity of Sengu Sofa can also be identified in the construction of the sofa and the materials used. Thanks to the study carried out by Cassina LAB, a collaboration between the Cassina Research and Development Centre and Poli.design at the Milan Polytechnic, a 100% recycled fibre has been incorporated in the cushion padding in respect of the environment.
