Patricia Urquiola harmonizes ancient embroidery techniques with contemporary graphics by exploring the potential of felted wool yarn for the Sonora collection. Known for its malleability, the natural fiber becomes the starting point for reinterpreting the Petit point embroidery technique on a macro scale for a new rug and pouf design. Felted, woolen, multi-colored threads are hand woven onto a semi-rigid grid, which serves as the support for each rug. cc-tapis’ Indian weavers follow the structure of the internal grid, creating pixelated patterns which simulate the generation and transmission of sound waves. Continuously varying motifs which create a dynamic visual effect, echoing the vibrant fluidity of sound propagation. Time peacefully flows through SONORA’s colorful embroidered patterns becoming a three-dimensional and visual interpretation of its progression. Like sound, the design of Sonora seems to constantly change, in a synergy of detailed 3D textures. SONORA comprises of a single rug design, available in three color combinations and a handwoven pouf.
