Hybrida
EDIT Napoli2021

In collaboration with the school Istituto Caselli and the Royal Factory of Capodimonte, Urquiola designed a limited edition of porcelain artworks that tell a story of alchemy and experimentation.
Hybrida is a project that translates manual skills and artisan talent into hybrid shapes and figures that populate the table set up for EDIT Naples fair.
Traditional handcraft processes meet experimental ones, like the immersion in porcelain of unconventional materials, such as sponges and cotton, alongside the mosses from the Real Bosco that surrounds the Royal Factory.
“Working with Capodimonte porcelain brings one word to my mind: Albedo. The Albedo stage is the second phase of the alchemical transformation, coming after Nigredo, a first phase of necessary decomposition. Albedo is the stage of purification, whitening, a feminine phase, finally free from rules, just like I intended this project. It starts with water, ceramic powders, ropes, sponges, mosses and flowers from the Capodimonte wood which, dipped in porcelain and then cooked, purify and partially dissolve. And finally will come a third phase, the Rubedo, lit up with life and color: a real garden of plants and flowers for the school courtyard.”
All the pieces of Hybrida were part of the MADE IN EDIT project and were part of a solidarity auction, in collaboration with Christie’s, to subsidize the restoration of the educational garden within the school.
